One year after the first SLS, interest had grown noticeably. From 13–16 March 2025, SLS Rally returned to Golsfjellet – with more cars, more people and a weekend that took the concept another clear step forward.
Red Bull was there with its DJ car and free Red Bull. The grills were fired up, and spectators and passengers inside the closed area could also enjoy beer and champagne. The weather could hardly have been better. Peak SLS!!
Thursday – the tradition begins
Thursday started with what has since become an SLS tradition: the cars were driven to the top of Bualie ski resort and parked there overnight.
There is something unique about leaving a collection of sports cars at the top of a Norwegian ski slope as darkness settles over the mountain. The reason becomes obvious a few hours later.
Sunrise at minus 20
Friday started very early. Participants took the lift to the top before sunrise for the annual sunrise shoot. Temperatures dropped to around -20 °C, but the conditions were flawless and the light made the early start worthwhile.
Later in the day, temperatures became far more comfortable. After the shoot, the cars were driven back down, the slope was prepared – and it was go time.
Record turnout
The turnout was bigger than the year before, and the line-up was anything but ordinary. Ferrari 488, Porsche 992 911 Turbo S Cabriolet, two Lamborghini Huracán Sterratos, specially built GR Yarises, several Brabus G-Wagens, Audi R8s and plenty of RAM TRXs.
Two R8s running side by side up the ski slope became one of many images that showed just how absurd – and at the same time strangely natural – SLS was starting to feel.
Almost 30 metres uphill
The TRXs once again attracted a lot of attention. With huge American flags and more speed into the jump, distances were pushed towards 30 metres – uphill.
Not usually the direction in which jump distances are measured.
Getting the shot
What looks simple in a ten-second video takes a little more work in real life. To keep up with the cars, snowmobiles capable of around 170 km/h were used. Our dedicated photographers rode backwards on the machines to capture the cars coming up the slope.
That probably says something about how seriously we take the content – even when the idea itself is not particularly serious.
More than the driving
SLS is not only about the hours behind the wheel. The weekend continued with an afterparty at Bualie on one evening and Pers Hotel on the other. Pers was also hosting a large group who had taken part in Aloha on Ice, an event connected to Formula Drift profile Fredric Aasbø and the community around him.
For one weekend, different parts of the car community, friends and people who would normally meet in completely different places suddenly found themselves on the same mountain.
We knew this would travel
Before the weekend was over, it was difficult not to feel that SLS had taken a step forward. The cars, the weather, the jumps, the people and the images all came together at the same time.
We know the content is going to make an impact far beyond Golsfjellet.
